MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila and 23 other areas across the country will see overcast skies and rains on Wednesday due to the easterlies and the northeast monsoon, or amihan.

In a morning weather update, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Benison Estareja said eight Luzon areas will see cloudy skies and rains due to the northeast monsoon or the cold winds coming from mainland Asia.

These places are Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon

“Magdadala pa rin ito [amihan] ng makulimlim na panahon at sasamahan ng mga light at minsang mga moderate rains sa malaking bahagi ng Cagayan Valley, gayundin sa Cordillera Administrative Region, pababa ng Aurora, Quezon, malaking bahagi ng Kabikulan, as well as Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro at Romblon,” Estareja noted.

(The northeast monsoon will continue to bring overcast skies accompanied by light to occasional moderate rains over much of the Cagayan Valley, also Cordillera Administrative Region, down to Aurora, Quezon, a large portion of the Bicol Region, as well as Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, and Romblon.)

The northeast monsoon will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains in 12 other areas: Metro Manila, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Occidental Mindoro.

“Pagsapit ng hapon hanggang sa gabi, mataas na ang tsansa ng kaulapan at mga pag-ulan at bahagyang maulap hanggang kung minsang maulap na kalangitan over the rest of Central Luzon and Calabarzon, Metro Manila and Occidental Mindoro at sasamahan lamang po yan ng mga pulo-pulo at mahihinang pag-ulan,” Estareja added.

Estareja also said that four other areas, namely Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Davao Region, and Soccsksargen, will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies or the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.

No low-pressure area is expected by the state weather bureau until the weekend.

He warned the public of moderate to strong in areas of Northern and Central Luzon, as well as the eastern sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao on Wednesday.
